The end of NASCAR's 30-year run on ESPN

It was exciting to be invited to be a part of the editorial team for the 2014 NASCAR season on ESPN.  This was a unique year not just because we were delivering some really exciting features each week and editing a lot of content, but also because we were a part of writing the final chapter of a very successful run of NASCAR on ESPN.  The production team was second to none and it was truly an honor to be a part of this crew.

I worked the majority of the season on the night crew working with a couple of really experienced editors who I learned a lot from and really respected.  I quickly established myself as a very capable editor who worked quickly unsupervised and could handle all of the heavy Adobe After Effects comps with ease.  We were rendering quite a few graphic elements and green screen keys and because of the time it took, these were given to me to do on over nights.  It was my goal to get everything rendered correctly, spell checked and organized so that the day shift didn’t have to re-render or search around.  This made an impression.

It came down to the final race of the year, the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway and the Feature Producer called me and told me that I would be working days and that I would be in the truck on race day!  This felt like a huge honor and a compliment to my hard work.  I was so excited to be there and it was very cool to be able to push elements live to such a historical broadcast.
